BOULDER BREW BABES
History, Beer, and Passion at Third State Brewery
Take the Riverline down to the Burlington Towne Centre stop, hop off, and find your way to Third State Brewery for a fun cozy winter day. Alisa visited Third State Brewery with good friends and family as they talked to Bill Pozniak, one of the owners and head brewer! Bill explained that he has been doing house brewing since 1990 and loves to learn as he goes. When asked what his favorite beer was, he said, “whatever's in my cup”. Cheers to that!

Why the name? For about a year Bill and his buddies disagreed and argued on a name. They were worried about coming into a very historical town...but as Bill said it, you can’t open a brewery if arguing over a name. Inspired by history, Third State Brewery came to be because New Jersey was the third state to ratify the constitution! Everything is brewed right at the brewery making this beer extra fresh. Talking with Bill about the history and his passion for the brewery industry was inspiring and reminded us of our local breweries, small businesses, and companies who may be suffering during these difficult times pursuing their passion and dreams. So for Christmas this year, stop by Third State Brewery and pick up the beer lover in your family some local NJ brew.
“If I didn’t make a dime, I’d consider it a total success...I love what I’m doing” -Bill Pozniak

Brew Babe Featured Beers

Third State Pilsner - German Style: 5.2% ABV
Of course Alisa and her crew had to try this brew named after the brewery, and it is a perfect core beer for the place. The beautiful golden color sweeps you right in, so fast that Alisa couldn’t even snag a picture of it solo before her mom took a sip! There is lots of flavor in the first sip, and throughout making it a refreshing brew with and a great way to start off our visit.
Pour Visibility New England IPA: 6.5% ABV
Haaaaaaaaaazy- “pour” visibility is right. This is a juicy IPA, but not a heavy IPA making it on the lighter side...if Stephanie was here she would really love this IPA especially since we finally have her drinking them! The hops and an” orange-y” fruity taste made this hazy IPA a favorite as the sip is fruity and the hops finish it up!
Pumpkin Pail Seasonal Pumpkin Spice Ale: 5.2% ABV
The dark amber color of this beautiful fall beer, and the spicy nutmeg smell and taste screams being cuddled on the couch on a chilly night. This one had the ladies obsessed. As one of Alisa’s special guests, Cheryl put it, it reminds her of Grandma’s oatmeal cookies.. Alisa’s mom even loved the spice of the beer, hats off to Bill!
Blau Oktober Oktoberfest: 6.0% ABV
Bill let Alisa in on some head brewer knowledge explaining that this is brewed on a German decoction mashing schedule meaning a portion of the mash is taken out, then boiled, and then returns it back to the mash and the temperature is raised. Shoutout to Bill for dropping some brewer knowledge! The crew loved this malty beer as it was an Oktoberfest to the T.
Wood Street American Blonde Ale: 5.2% ABV
In classic Boulder Brew Babe fashion the trip with Alisa’s crew included a Blonde Ale. Nice and relaxed, an easy drinker to keep us going. This is the perfect beer to drink for football Sunday’s as it is crisp and light.
Alisa will definitely be visiting Third State Brewery during this holiday season! There were no stouts on this trip, but Alisa will be back to try some eye catching brews like Coconut Stout, Cyrus Bustill, and more delicious stouts for the winter weather. Pop on in if possible, or place an order for pickup!
